Types of Eye Irritation and Natural Remedies

An eye infection is caused by the attack of different types of ailments. Irritation of the eyes may be due to many reasons but there are some common reasons like infection due to bacteria, viral or foreign object. People putting on contact lenses are more prone to infection of eye due to the presence of bacteria.

Some common type of infection of the eye which causes irritations -

Conjunctivitis or pink eye - It causes irritation and result into redness of the eye. It is one of the most common types of infection of the eye. This infection is due to air-borne disease so one has to remain careful.

Stye - Medically it is famous by the name of hordeolum. It can be easily recognized. It is a small lump formed inside the eyelid or at the base of an eyelash.

Blepharitis - Usually eyelids are affected due to inflammation in this condition. It also causes burning, itching and irritation.

Orbital cellulitis - It is the inflammation or infection in the surrounding region of the eye. But sometimes it result into serious condition like losing your eyesight if necessary treatment is not provided.

Keratitis - It is also known as corneal ulcers. Usually it is caused by an injury to cornea by the foreign body.

Dacryocystitis - It is an infection which is caused due to the tear duct.

Some of the common symptom and sign of the eye irritations are constant itching, photophobia, swelling of eye, watery eye, blurred vision, redness of the eye, yellow or green discharge, irritation of the eye and pain in the eye.

There are some natural remedies for eye irritation -

1. You must avoid swimming in chlorinated water to avoid irritation.
2. Herbal eyewashes are very effective so make herbal eyewash by using 1 tsp dried eyebright herb which is steeped in 1 pint of boiling water. Allow it to cool and then strain this liquid. Now this solution is ready to use as eyewash.
3. Honey is very effective for the treatment of eye irritation. You can use honey directly into your eyes or you can make honey eyewash also for the treatment of eye irritation. Take three tablespoon of honey in two cups of boiling water. Allow it to cool and then use it as eyewash. It is also very effective.
4. You can also make an elderberry blossom tea to use it as an eye wash. It soothes our eyes.
